Muirhouse Youth Development Group (MYDG) is the host organisation supporting the Link Up worker in Muirhouse.
Muirhouse is a district of north Edinburgh with a population of around 5,500. Although the name refers to the original mansion built for the Davidson Family in 1832, the modern residential area of Muirhouse was built as a council estate in the 1950s. Muirhouse has undergone three significant periods of regeneration since the 1970s and the latest is on-going. As a consequence of these changes the social mix in the area is changing and there is a real need to start “connecting people”. Link Up is seen as offering real potential to help this happen: helping to re-connect long-standing residents as well as forge new social networks with and amongst new-comers to the area. Link Up is also seen as a means of re-igniting grassroots community activism.
