The Ayrshire Community Trust (TACT) is the host organisation for Link Up in Saltcoats, North Ayrshire. Saltcoats Link Up was established in 2014.
Saltcoats is one of the three communities that make up what is known locally as ‘The Three Towns’ in North Ayrshire. There is a good sense of community and a strong sense of belonging amongst the people of Saltcoats, and this has been growing and developing in recent times. There is a firm desire from residents and local businesses/traders alike to make Saltcoats a place where people want to live, work and visit.
The town has an abundance of local assets which include five primary schools, one secondary school and three nurseries. There are two community centres in the area, from which a wide range of community and youth activities take place. There are a range of places of worship locally, and the town centre has a long-established area, primarily focused around two of the main streets, one of which is pedestrianised. There are also a number of outdoor recreational areas locally, which include parks, plantations and children’s play areas. As a coastal town, Saltcoats boasts a beautiful beach and harbour area, which are used by many people for a range of activities from jogging and dog-walking to family picnics and fishing. The town is also home to a local heritage centre. In the last year, residents and local traders came together to form Saltcoats Community Action Group, with the aim of promoting and supporting community spirit and pride of place in the area.
