PEEK showcase partnership programme supported by Building Brighter Futures Fund

Our Building Brighter Futures Fund (BBFF) team recently visited Govan High School alongside the Hub Community Foundation (HCF) where PEEK showcased their ‘Your Choice’ programme delivered in partnership with Govan High School and Police Scotland.

Your Choice is PEEK’s early intervention project funded by BBFF to support young people disengaging from mainstream educational provision with little to no qualifications.  The programme provides a supportive environment for young people to explore positive pathways, develop their social skills, confidence and work towards achieving qualifications for the workplace such as Conflict Resolution, First Aid, Health and Safety, Food Hygiene and Youth Achievement Awards.

P.E. Teacher Ms McKenzie who is involved in the programme from Govan High School outlined the benefits of the programme on the pupil’s behaviour, attendance and attainment and reported that pupil’s incidents with the police had reduced considerably at the same rate.

PC Traynor, who is based in Govan High School reinforced the positive difference the programme was making between the students and their relationship with the police.

Julia Abel, Director of Funds at Inspiring Scotland, said:

“This project really showcases the power of partnership working across sectors. Not only has it established trust between the pupils and police, but it has also provided young people with new skills and the tools to make positive choices in the future. Along with this it is providing an incentive to come to school and further encouragement to re-engage with education.”

Bill Mackintosh, Trustee at HCF reflected on the visit:

“It’s tremendous to see the efforts of the team at Govan High School delivering real outcomes for young people funded by BBFF and HCF. Getting to meet four of the young people who clearly value the support they receive tipped off a great visit.”

Inspiring Scotland is committed to improving the life chances of children and young people across Scotland. BBFF is one of nine programmes working towards this strategic priority.

Inspiring Scotland manages BBFF in partnership with HCF to support disadvantaged young people furthest from the labour market with opportunities to gain the skills and confidence to succeed through education, training and employment.

PEEK is one of eight charities supported by BBFF which since 2018 has donated a total of £2.2m to Scottish charities
